CNG calls on National Assembly to amend tax bill for citizens’ welfare

The National Coordinator of the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Chiranchi, has urged the National Assembly to consider amendments to a tax bill currently under review to better serve the interests of Nigerian citizens.

Chiranchi made this appeal while addressing journalists at the one-day National Women’s Conference held at the Aminu Kano Centre for Democratic Research (Mambayya House) in Kano.

He emphasized the need for the National Assembly to assure Nigerians that these proposed amendments will be seriously considered.

According to Chiranchi, the CNG’s primary objective is to safeguard the interests of Nigeria, including its women and future generations.

He called on the legislature to act responsibly and ensure that the suggested changes align with the law. While clarifying the group’s position, Chiranchi noted that the CNG is not opposed to the entire bill but seeks to rectify specific provisions that may adversely affect the nation and its citizens.

“The group remains committed to advocating for necessary reforms to ensure the bill aligns with Nigeria’s best interests,” he stated.

In his remarks, Salisu Nuhu Muhammad, former General Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), highlighted the vital role of women in driving national reform.

Muhammad praised the enthusiasm and dedication demonstrated by women during the conference, noting, “Women are not fragile but have been labeled as vulnerable, though they are indeed the strongest.”
