Abia distributes 53 transformers to tackle power outage in communities

The Abia State government has commenced the distribution of 53 transformers to various communities across the state to boost power supply and tackle power outages.

Speaking while launching the distribution, Governor Alex Otti said that the transformers would provide reliable electricity supply to the communities.

Otti, who was represented by the Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, Ikechukwu Monday, stated that 11 communities would benefit from the first phase of the distribution, while 42 other communities would receive theirs later this week.

The governor observed that the industrialisation of the state cannot be achieved without a reliable electricity supply and urged all the benefiting communities to ensure the transformers are protected against any form of threat or vandalism.

“This is taxpayers’ money that is being put to work, so you should endeavour to handle it with care, protect it, and provide enough security,” Otti instructed.

Responding on behalf of other benefiting communities, Eze Innocent Ezeala of Ibe Uzo Amawom-Oboro community in Ikwuano LGA thanked Governor Otti for extending such a gesture to his community.

The 11 communities that benefited from the first phase include Umuogo (Umuahia South LGA), Amaegbuato-Nkpa (Bende LGA), Okpuala/Umuelenwa (Isiala Ngwa North LGA), Agbama Olokoro (Umuahia South LGA), Ibe Uzo Amawom (Ikwuano LGA), Umuoruku (Obingwa LGA), Atani Abam (Arochukwu LGA), Ndi Oti Alicho-Acho (Arochukwu LGA), Abayi Ohanze (Obingwa LGA), Nwokoma Environs-Umuagbaghi (Aba South LGA), and Umuokelenta Amaoba Oboro (Ikwuano LGA).
