Buni elected chairman of lake chad basin governors’ forum

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has been elected as the new chairman of the Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum. His election took place on Friday during an extraordinary meeting of the forum in Maiduguri, the capital of Yobe State.

The forum, which focused on the theme “Rebuilding the Lake Chad Basin: Consolidating Gains, Commitment to Peace, Cross-Border Cooperation, Security, and Sustainable Development for a Resilient Community,” seeks to tackle the region’s challenges related to insecurity, poverty, and economic instability.

In his acceptance speech, Governor Buni expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him by his colleagues, promising to lead with dedication and responsibility.

“It is gratifying that as we celebrate the successful end of this meeting, my colleagues have found me worthy of chairing the forum for the next two years.

“I wish to on behalf of myself, the government and the people of Yobe state, commend and appreciate the decision of my colleagues for endorsing me as the new chairman of the Forum.

He also thanked President Bola Tinubu for his leadership and unwavering commitment to the peace, security, and development of the region.

Buni extended his heartfelt appreciation to the governors, delegates, and other stakeholders for their contributions to the event’s success.

He expressed hope that the resolutions made would be implemented effectively and emphasized the importance of strong partnerships, support, and resource allocation to achieve shared objectives.

The new chairman reiterated his commitment to advancing agricultural transformation and praised the people of Yobe for their contributions.

He also recognized the efforts of the outgoing chairperson, Ildjima Abdraman, and expressed his thanks to all participants, wishing them safe travels.
