6.0 magnitude earthquake hits Indonesia

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 has jolted Seram, Indonesia on Monday, the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences said.

The earthquake was reported early morning, near Masohi, Kabupaten Maluku Tengah, Maluku, Indonesia.

According to Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency, the quake hit on Tuesday at 2:32 am local time at a shallow depth of 10. km.

Media Talk Africa reports that shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface.

Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter.

It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
