Afrobeats singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has claimed that the Nigerian music industry shut down when he took a break from social media in November 2022 following the tragic death of his son, Ifeanyi Adeleke.

He recalled that both fans and trolls were begging him to return to social media during the three-month break.

The music star disclosed this in a recent interview with Apple Music’s Ebro Darden.

He said, “I knew that people love me because when I was not active online, the whole [Nigerian music] industry was shut down. I was seeing tweets like, ‘We do love him’, ‘It’s so quiet out here’, ‘Davido come back.’ Even the fans who hate me were like, ‘Please, come back, we need to bash you’.”

Media Talk Africa recalls that Davido took a break from social media in November 2022 after losing his son, Ifeanyi, to a swimming pool accident at his Lagos mansion.

He returned to social media in March 2023 to announce his fourth album, ‘Timeless’, amid excitement.
