Nigerian Media Executives Seek Practical Solutions to Industry Challenges

In a rapidly evolving media landscape, industry leaders are seeking practical solutions to navigate the increasing challenges they face. This was the central theme of a recent two-day Media CEO Workshop, organized by Channels Academy in collaboration with the U.S. Mission in Nigeria, which took place in Abuja. The workshop is part of the U.S. Speaker Programme on Journalism Innovation and Sustainable Media Business, a program designed to provide media executives with the tools necessary to thrive in an era of shifting business models and operating environments.

The U.S. Mission in Nigeria emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating that it represents the latest example of their long-standing support for the Nigerian media. The program kicked off with a session titled “Leading through Change in the Media Landscape,” facilitated by former U.S. News Executive Stacia Philips. This was followed by panel discussions on critical topics such as audience growth and retention, collaborative journalism, and the impact of big tech and digital advertising on the media industry.

Participants found the workshop to be both timely and insightful, offering a platform for collaborative discussions and the sharing of experiences. Ali M. Ali, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the News Agency of Nigeria, expressed his enthusiasm for the workshop, highlighting the valuable insights he gained from the sessions. He noted that the challenges he faces are not unique to his organization and that the workshop provided a much-needed opportunity for collective problem-solving.

Dapo Olorunyomi, Publisher/CEO of Premium Times, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the need for a collective strategy to address the media’s challenges. The workshop, he noted, serves as a crucial platform for such discussions, bringing together diverse participants and facilitators to explore innovative solutions. The success of the Abuja workshop has paved the way for a similar event to be held in Lagos, further expanding the reach and impact of this critical initiative.

As the media landscape continues to evolve, the need for practical tools and collaborative strategies has never been more pressing. The Media CEO Workshop, supported by the U.S. Mission in Nigeria, represents a significant step towards addressing these challenges, fostering innovation, and promoting sustainable media practices. By providing a platform for industry leaders to share knowledge, experiences, and solutions, this initiative has the potential to drive positive change and ensure the continued relevance and resilience of the media industry in Nigeria and beyond.
