How smoking, drinking worsened my medical condition – Miley Cyrus

American singer, Miley Cyrus has opened up about her medical condition, highlighting how drinking and smoking at a young age also contributed to it.

In a candid interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, the ‘Used To Be Young’ hitmaker shared that she is suffering from a medical condition Reinke’s edema.

Reinke’s edema is a noncancerous disorder of the vocal cords that is common among individuals with a long-term smoking history. It occurs when the surface of the vocal folds fills with fluid, causing them to become swollen and distended.

However, Cyrus claimed that her condition is more genetic.

She also shared that she is sceptical about undergoing surgery due to the possibility of losing her voice during the procedure.

“I have the Reinke’s edema, which is something that is called, it’s abuse of the vocal cords. And being 21 and staying up and drinking and smoking and partying after every show does not help,” she said.

“But also in my case, it does not cause it. So my voice always sounded like this – it’s a part of my unique anatomy.

“I have this large polyp on my cords, and I’m not willing to sever it ever, because the chance of waking up from a surgery and not sounding like myself is a probability.”
