A devastating attack on the residence of Reverend Father Mimang Lekyil, a respected cleric, has left the community in shock and outrage. The 70-year-old reverend was shot dead by suspected kidnappers during a late-night raid on his home in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria. The incident occurred on Sunday at around 9:00 p.m. while the household was asleep.
According to eyewitnesses, the kidnappers forced their way into the reverend’s home, initially taking two women hostage. However, the swift response of local vigilantes led to the rescue of the abducted women. Bishop Ayuba Matawal, a resident of the area, confirmed the attack and provided details of the incident. “They shot the reverend. The two women in the house were kidnapped but later rescued by residents of the area,” he stated.
The tragic event took a turn for the worse as angry residents, blaming the Fulani community for the attack, retaliated by burning down several Fulani homes in the Dingak village. Sa’id Adamu, a Fulani youth leader, confirmed that houses in the Fulani settlement were razed to the ground. The body of the slain cleric has been taken to Muna Mortuary in Bokkos.
The police are yet to release an official statement on the incident, leaving many questions unanswered.
