Why I moved out of my parents’ house at 16 – Singer, Ayo Maff

Nigerian singer, Ayo Maff, has disclosed that he left his parents house in the Shomolu area of Lagos at the age of 16.

Ayo Maff stated this while recalling his humble beginnings.

Revealing reasons for the decision, the 19-year-old fast rising artiste stated that he left the house “because I wanted more for my family”.

The singer during his latest interview with Hip TV explained, “As the first child of my family, I left home at 16 because it was not easy in there.

“Life in Shomolu is hard, fun and also exciting. Without living in Shomolu I wouldn’t have the experiences of singing about them. I wouldn’t have truly seen  reality of life that shaped me.

“I looked around and realised that I had to go out and make it for these people (his family). So, I just leave to stay with my friend for one year and a few months. My mum was concerned when I was leaving, but I assured her that I would be coming to check on them.”

Media Talk Africa reports that the singer gained recognition following the release of his hit single ‘Dealer’, featuring Fireboy DML in 2023.
