Cattle Rustlers Attack Village in Kebbi State, Steal Livestock

A devastating attack by cattle rustlers has left a village in Kebbi State, Nigeria, reeling after they made off with a large number of cows and sheep. The raid, which occurred on Friday evening in Tuwon Tsoro village, sparked widespread panic and fear among residents as the thieves forcibly took livestock from several families.

Fortunately, no lives were lost in the attack, but the economic impact is being felt deeply, particularly by those who rely heavily on animal rearing for their survival. One of the victims, Malam Umaru Bagaye, a local cattle owner, was left visibly distressed after the rustlers took five of his cows and several sheep. For Bagaye, the loss is not just financial; it’s a blow to his ability to provide for his family. “This is what I use to feed my family and send my children to school,” he explained. “Losing them like this is like starting life all over again.”

The attack has prompted a swift response from local authorities, with Honourable Muhammed Sani Garba Tiggi, the member representing Augie Constituency in the Kebbi State House of Assembly, visiting the community on Saturday to offer his sympathies to the affected residents. While thanking God that no lives were lost, Tiggi expressed concern over the economic implications of the theft, describing it as a serious setback for the community.

Tiggi urged security agencies to take immediate action to apprehend those responsible for the attack, highlighting the need for swift justice to prevent such incidents in the future. The attack on Tuwon Tsoro village serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by rural communities in Nigeria, where livestock is often a vital source of income and livelihood. As the community begins to come to terms with the loss, there is a growing call for increased security measures to protect these vulnerable areas from such attacks.
