Fuel price: MEMAN mulls discussion with Dangote Refinery, regulators on petrol distribution

The Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria has said that it plans to initiate discussion with Dangote Refinery and regulators such as the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority on premium motor spirit distribution nationwide.

The Executive Secretary of MEMAN, Clement Isong, made this known during a webinar organised by the association on Thursday.

His comments come in response to Dangote Refinery’s latest announcement to commence distribution of fuel and diesel to customers nationwide from August 15, 2025.

The development had raised uproar in the country’s downstream sector.

Reacting to Isong, its members are still studying the details of Dangote Refinery’s forward integration strategy in the oil downstream sector.

“At this point, we are watching the market, trying to understand it,” he stated.

He added, “And that requires a lot of discussion: discussion with Dangote himself, discussion with the authorities, and discussion with other stakeholders.”

Isong, however, lauded Dangote Refinery for adopting compressed natural gas trucks for petroleum products distribution.

Meanwhile, Media Talk Africa reports that depot owners and Dangote had increased their petrol price amid a global crude oil price surge following the Israel and Iran war.

To this end, Media Talk Africa gathered that some retail filling stations in Abuja, such as Empire Energy, had increased their petrol price to N955 per litre from N910 on Thursday.
