Some Nigerian artists refuse to speak against bad governance, insecurity for selfish reasons – Illbliss

Famous rapper Tobechukwu Melvin Ejiofor, aka Illbliss, has criticised some Nigerian artists for their conspicuous silence on the increasing hardship and escalating insecurity in the country.

He noted that some celebrities are refusing to speak against bad governance and insecurity in the country due to selfish reasons.

He, however, commended artists like Falz who joined protests against poor governance in the past and also used their music to preach against corruption.

Illbliss featured as a guest in a recent episode of The Real Shareholders podcast.

He said, “There are very commendable names that have come out to speak and join protests and even get arrested. Falz The Bhad Guy is one of them. He has a whole project titled, ‘Moral Instructions.’ I dare believe that it is probably the Falz’s album with the least streams or commercial success because he was hugely introspective. It just mirrored society.

“On the other flip side of things, there’s a huge percentage of the artistic industry that has basically turned their backs on what’s happening in Nigeria, for reasons best known to them. Perhaps, they know that regardless of whatever you say, the government will do whatever they wants to do. Or, they are just playing safe because the people in the government are their godfathers. They invite them to their events.”
