Labour Party Ex-Spokesperson Predicts Coalition Will Unseat APC in 2027 Elections

Nigerian Politics Heats Up: New Coalition Poised to Challenge Ruling Party in 2027

In a bold move that’s sending shockwaves through Nigeria’s political landscape, a high-profile coalition involving former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former President Olusegun Obasanjo is gearing up to take on the ruling All Progressives Party (APC) in the 2027 general elections. According to Kenneth Okonkwo, former spokesperson of the Labour Party’s Presidential Campaign Council in 2023, this coalition has the "engine room" to unseat the APC, and he’s confident that the party will be caught off guard.

Okonkwo revealed this in an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, stating, "Just know that I am part of the coalition. I can tell you about the engine room of this coalition that many people don’t know about. APC will not know what hit them come 2027." This declaration comes as the coalition seeks to register a new political party called the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), signaling a significant shift in the country’s political dynamics.

The APC, however, remains unfazed by the emerging coalition. Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has downplayed the threat, saying that the coalition poses no danger to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in 2027. Despite this confidence, the fact that such a formidable group of political heavyweights is banding together suggests that the 2027 elections will be highly contested.

As Nigeria inches closer to the 2027 general elections, the stage is set for a fierce political battle. With the new coalition’s determination to challenge the APC’s dominance, one thing is certain: the outcome of the elections will have far-reaching implications for the country’s future. Will the APC maintain its grip on power, or will the coalition manage to pull off an upset? Only time will tell, but for now, one thing is clear: Nigerian politics has never been more intriguing.
