Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has signed a bill establishing 13 new Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state. The signing ceremony took place at the government house on Monday, where Governor Yahaya explained that the creation of the LCDAs is in line with the 1999 Constitution and aims to address population growth and promote grassroots development.
The new LCDAs, which include Akko North, Akko West, Balanga South, Billiri West, Dukku North, Funakaye South, Gombe South, Kaltungo East, Kwami West, Nafada South, Pero-Chonge, Yamaltu East, and Yamaltu West, will have their respective headquarters in Amada, Pindiga, Bambam, Taal, Malala, Tongo, Bolari, Wange, Bojude, Birin-Fulani, Filiya, Dadinkowa, and Zambuk.
According to Governor Yahaya, the long-term benefits of creating the new councils, such as job creation, improved access to services, and enhanced security, outweigh the initial financial burden. He drew a parallel between the creation of the new LCDAs and the creation of Gombe State in 1996, predicting that the new councils will bring progress to the communities and the state at large.
To oversee the setup of the new councils, an Interim Management Committee and a Transition Technical Team, led by the Deputy Governor, have been established. The new LCDAs are expected to improve the delivery of services to the population and enhance development at the grassroots level.
