African Nations Urged to Deepen Cooperation for Safer Continent

African nations have been urged to strengthen regional cooperation and harness innovation to build a safer and more secure continent. This call was made by Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, at a dinner hosted for participants of the inaugural African Chiefs of Service Staff Summit in Abuja. The summit brought together high-ranking military officials, security experts, diplomats, and industry stakeholders from across Africa to discuss key security priorities.

The minister commended the continent’s defence chiefs for their leadership and sacrifices, emphasizing the importance of their collaboration in protecting sovereignty and citizens. He highlighted the summit’s focus on critical security issues, including border management, counter-terrorism, maritime safety, and the application of new technologies such as artificial intelligence to enhance defence operations.

Dr. Matawalle assured that Nigeria would continue to invest in training, support strong institutions, and promote democratic values, fairness, and respect for human rights. Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, described the summit as a significant step towards establishing a robust continental security framework. He urged participating countries to maintain the momentum generated by the summit and translate resolutions into concrete actions.

General Musa emphasized the importance of unity among African nations, stating that collective strength is the most effective weapon against threats such as terrorism, piracy, and cybercrime. The summit concluded with a dinner featuring cultural performances and entertainment, showcasing Nigeria’s hospitality. The event marked a crucial step towards fostering cooperation and collaboration among African nations to address common security challenges and build a more peaceful and secure continent.
