The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Nigeria, has taken a significant step by passing a vote of no confidence in several key party members, including Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, Professor Wale Oladipo, and Ife East Local Government Chairman Olasunkanmi Makinde. The decision was made during a meeting of constituency leaders on 1 September 2025 at the residence of the Osun East PDP senatorial leader.
According to a communiqué released after the meeting, party leaders cited actions that could threaten the unity and success of the party in Ifeland. They specifically mentioned the alleged invitation of thugs and hoodlums to a constituency meeting originally scheduled for the Deputy Governor’s residence, and the continued association of Prof. Oladipo, Deputy Governor Adewusi, and Makinde with Bimbo Ajilesoro, a House of Representatives member who defected from the PDP.
The meeting also expressed dissatisfaction with the treatment of loyal party members in Ife East, who were allegedly stripped of government and party positions for distancing themselves from Ajilesoro. In addition, party meetings in Ife East Local Government have been suspended under the current leadership, weakening grassroots mobilization and activities in the constituency.
In response, State PDP Chairman Sunday Bisi called for calm and directed party members in Ife Federal Constituency to suspend any actions that could escalate the situation. He emphasized the need for members to follow internal conflict‑resolution mechanisms and warned that any actions undermining the party’s authority or flouting its rules would not be tolerated.
The party has taken immediate steps to resolve the issues, summoning concerned stakeholders to a meeting to address grievances and work toward a resolution. The Osun PDP has urged all contending forces in Ifeland to embrace peace and unity, emphasizing the importance of discipline and adherence to party rules and procedures. This development highlights the ongoing challenges faced by the PDP in Osun State and the need to address internal conflicts to maintain unity and stability.
