President Bola Tinubu has ordered the recall of Salihu Dembos as Director‑General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) following recent management changes at the agency. In a statement, Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga said that Mr. Dembos, who was appointed by President Tinubu in October 2023, will now return to complete his three‑year tenure.
The President also directed the recall of Ayo Adewuyi, the Executive Director of News, to finish his three‑year term, which runs until 2027. Mr. Adewuyi was appointed by President Tinubu in 2024. This directive overrides earlier appointments of a new Director‑General, Executive Director of News, Executive Director of Marketing, and Managing Director of NTA Enterprises.
The recall of Mr. Dembos and Mr. Adewuyi follows a recent announcement by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information at the SGF’s Office, that Rotimi Pedro would take over as NTA Director‑General. The NTA, a prominent television network in Nigeria, is likely to feel significant implications from these management shifts.
The decision to recall the two officials is seen as a move to ensure stability and continuity at the NTA. By allowing them to complete their tenures, President Tinubu may be aiming to provide clear direction and leadership for the agency. The action also underscores the importance of the NTA in Nigeria’s media landscape as a key platform for news, entertainment, and public information.
As the NTA navigates these changes, it is expected to continue playing a vital role in shaping Nigeria’s media industry. Monitoring how the recalls affect the NTA’s operations and output in the coming months will be essential, especially as the Nigerian media sector evolves. The organization’s ability to adapt and respond to changing circumstances will be crucial to its ongoing success.
