The Nigeria Customs Service Board approved the promotion of 3,312 senior officers and the appointment of four Deputy Comptroller‑Generals and 12 Assistant Comptroller‑Generals during its 63rd regular meeting, chaired by Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun. National Public Relations Officer Abdullahi Maiwada explained that the promotions fill vacancies created by the retirement of management team members from various geopolitical zones, reflecting the service’s commitment to inclusivity, institutional balance and the Federal Character Policy.
The newly appointed Deputy Comptroller‑Generals are AB Mohammed (North‑West), GO Omale (North‑Central), OC Orbih (South‑South) and D Nnadi (South‑East). The Assistant Comptroller‑Generals include MP Binga, CA Awo, AB Shuaibu and ten others from different zones. In addition, the board approved the promotion of 202 junior officers from Assistant Inspector to Customs Assistant I.
The board also reviewed the service’s revenue performance for the first half of the year, recording total collections of N3,682,496,530,576.48—11.85 % above the projected revenue. It noted that this strong performance underscores the effectiveness of ongoing reforms, improved stakeholder compliance and enhanced deployment of technology in customs operations.
In disciplinary matters, the board demoted two officers and reinstated two others, demonstrating its commitment to accountability and fairness. Comptroller‑General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi congratulated the newly appointed and promoted officers, urging them to justify the confidence placed in them. He reaffirmed the service’s dedication to innovation, inclusivity, transparency and excellence in service delivery, and thanked the Minister of Finance for his continued support and guidance.
These promotions and appointments are expected to strengthen the Nigeria Customs Service’s capacity for revenue mobilization and improve its effectiveness in customs operations. By emphasizing merit‑based career progression and recognizing outstanding performance, the service aims to boost staff morale and motivation, positioning the NCS to continue fulfilling its mandate of facilitating trade and generating revenue for the government.
