Kaduna Reintroduces 5-Day School Week Boosts Teacher Welfare

Kaduna State Government Reintroduces Five-Day School Week, Enhances Teacher Welfare

In a bid to improve learning outcomes and strengthen the education system, the Kaduna State Government has reinstated the five-day school week in all public schools across the state. Commissioner for Education, Professor Abubakar Sani-Sambo, made this announcement while receiving members of the Kaduna Government College Old Boys Association at his office. This move aims to boost academic performance and overall education quality in the state.

The government has also prioritized teacher welfare, with plans to review teachers’ salaries to enhance their productivity. According to Professor Sani-Sambo, the decision to reintroduce the five-day school week is crucial in achieving better educational outcomes. He emphasized that teacher welfare remains a top priority, and the government is committed to providing a conducive work environment for educators.

The temporary use of Kaduna Government College by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) was also discussed. Professor Sani-Sambo explained that this arrangement was made during a period of heightened security challenges in the state. However, with the improved security situation, both organizations will now be required to vacate the premises and move to their permanent sites. This will enable the school to function optimally and without disruptions.

The National President of the Kaduna Government College Old Boys Association, Muhammad Yusuf Sa’in Lere, had earlier appealed to Governor Uba Sani to intervene, citing that the NYSC and Civil Defence currently occupy about 70 percent of the school premises, thereby disrupting academic activities. The government’s decision to have these organizations relocate is expected to alleviate these challenges and ensure a conducive learning environment for students.

The reintroduction of the five-day school week and the emphasis on teacher welfare are significant steps towards improving the education sector in Kaduna State. As the government continues to work towards enhancing the education system, students, teachers, and the community at large are expected to benefit from these initiatives. With a focus on providing quality education and improving learning outcomes, the state government is committed to creating a better future for its citizens.
