Kano lawmaker, Doguwa alleges persistent attacks on APC members, as police invite suspects

Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa, a federal lawmaker from Kano State representing the Doguwa/Tudun Wada constituency, has condemned the alleged persistent attacks on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in his area. He is urging security agencies to investigate these incidents, which have left several party members injured. The most recent attack occurred on August 28, when thugs assaulted the Tasarrufi General Enterprise factory in Tudun Wada, causing serious injuries to many workers.

According to Doguwa, the Local Government Chairman of the area council was on site supervising the demolition of structures when the assault took place. The lawmaker described the attack as “barbaric” and claimed it was organized by the Chairman. He also alleged that the APC Chairman in the area, Alhaji Suyudi Umar, was a primary target of the violence.

Doguwa recalled a previous crisis between himself and the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) during the last general election, when he was accused of murder. He noted that the Federal High Court in Abuja and Kano cleared him of all charges and ordered the Governor and Kano state government to pay N25 million in costs.

State Police Public Relations Officer Abdullahi Kiyawa confirmed that the police have begun an investigation. A formal complaint has been filed against the ALGON chairperson, and all witnesses and suspects have been summoned for questioning. Additionally, the orderly to the ALGON chairperson has been recalled to the command to provide an account of the incident.

The investigation into the alleged attacks on APC members in Doguwa’s constituency is ongoing, with police seeking to determine the circumstances surrounding the events. The situation underscores the need for security agencies to address political violence, which can significantly affect the democratic process and the well‑being of citizens.
