APC Lawmaker Decries Attacks in Kano Constituency

A federal lawmaker from Kano State, Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa, has condemned the alleged persistent attacks on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in his constituency. Doguwa, who represents the Doguwa/Tudun Wada federal constituency, is calling on security agencies to investigate the alleged attacks, which have resulted in injuries to several party members.

The latest incident occurred on August 28, when thugs attacked the Tasarrufi General Enterprise, a factory in Tudun Wada, leaving many workers badly injured. According to Doguwa, the Local Government Chairman of the area council had visited the site to supervise the demolition of structures when the incident happened. The lawmaker has denounced the attack as “barbaric” and claims it was organized by the Chairman.

Doguwa alleged that the APC Chairman in the area, Alhaji Suyudi Umar, was one of the primary targets of the attack. He also recalled the crisis between him and the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the state during the last general election, when he was accused of allegedly committing murder. However, Doguwa noted that he was cleared of all charges by the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja and Kano, with the court ultimately ordering the Governor and Kano state government to pay N25 million in costs.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Kiyawa, has confirmed that the police have commenced an investigation into the matter. Kiyawa stated that a formal complaint has been filed against the ALGON chairperson, and all witnesses and suspects have been invited for questioning. The orderly to the ALGON chairperson has also been recalled to the command to provide an account of the incident.

The investigation into the alleged attacks on APC members in Doguwa’s constituency is ongoing, with the police seeking to determine the circumstances surrounding the incidents. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen what actions will be taken to address the alleged violence and ensure the safety of party members. The incident highlights the need for security agencies to investigate and address allegations of political violence, which can have a significant impact on the democratic process and the well-being of citizens.
