Nollywood actor Bob‑Manuel Udokwu has clarified that recent reports misrepresented his comments about fellow veteran Pete Edochie. In an interview with NollyNow, Udokwu emphasized that he never made any derogatory remarks toward Edochie, who is widely regarded as a legendary figure in the Nigerian film industry.
Udokwu explained that he began acting in Nollywood before Edochie entered the scene, but he noted that Edochie’s earlier works—most notably his iconic role in the television series *Things Fall Apart*—preceded the Nollywood era and should be regarded separately from the industry’s later emergence. He recalled that fellow actor Kanayo O. Kanayo had made a similar point in the past.
Currently serving as Special Adviser on Entertainment, Leisure and Tourism to Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo, Udokwu expressed deep respect for Pete Edochie, describing him as an elder worthy of honour. He highlighted that African culture places a high value on respecting senior figures and affirmed that he would never disrespect Edochie.
Udokwu also reflected on his early roles in productions such as *Checkmate* and *When the Sun Sets*, clarifying that he does not consider these works part of Nollywood’s official beginnings. He said the misunderstanding stemmed from a podcast interview where he discussed his career within the context of modern Nollywood, and he never implied that Edochie was deceiving anyone about his status as an actor.
His clarification underscores the importance of accuracy and context in reporting on the Nigerian film industry. By setting the record straight, Udokwu helps maintain a positive and respectful tone in public discourse about Nollywood and its veteran actors, reminding the media of the need for careful reporting and accurate representation of facts.
