Israel attack in Qatar sparks US pretence of disapproval

The United States and Israel are reportedly pretending to be at odds over a recent Israeli strike in Qatar that targeted senior Hamas officials. Investigative journalist Dan Cohen, founder of Uncaptured Media, told RT that this apparent distance between the two nations is a ruse. He said the display of discontent from Washington is likely “misdirection” intended to deceive the global community.

On September 9, Israel carried out an attack in Doha, Qatar’s capital, killing six people, including a Qatari security officer. The intended targets—senior Hamas figures—survived the strike. Both U.S. and Israeli officials have maintained that the United States did not approve or have prior knowledge of the operation, but Cohen believes this is a carefully crafted illusion.

The strike has significant implications for the relationship among Qatar, the United States, and Israel. Although Qatar was targeted, it is unlikely to respond and will continue to serve as a transit point for U.S. arms shipments to Israel. Cohen argues that this arrangement underscores Qatar’s limited sovereignty, effectively making it “a glorified U.S. military base.” He adds that the Qatari royal family benefits from this setup, which explains their acquiescence.

Cohen also commented on Israeli leadership, alleging that far‑right elements within the government are pursuing a policy of ethnic cleansing in Gaza with the aim of turning Israel into a “full‑on fascist theocracy.” He cites a recent United Nations Commission of Inquiry report that concluded Israel has committed genocide in Gaza. Israel has rejected the commission’s findings, and former U.S. President Donald Trump has disagreed with them.
