Stephen Colbert gleefully reacts to Jimmy Kimmel's return to air

Stephen Colbert has commented on Jimmy Kimmel’s return to the air, saying the development marks a partial end to a challenging period for late‑night television. He expressed happiness for Kimmel and his team and noted that he looks forward to resuming their on‑air rivalry.

The remark follows the recent lifting of Kimmel’s suspension. Earlier, Colbert had been competing with Kimmel for an Emmy Award, ultimately winning the prize. However, he acknowledged that celebrating his win was difficult because of Kimmel’s suspension.

Colbert’s own show was cancelled by CBS in July after he accused the network’s parent company, Paramount, of paying a bribe to former President Donald Trump. The cancellation came just days before the Trump administration approved Paramount’s merger with Skydance.

According to Colbert, Kimmel’s suspension triggered a surge in Google searches for terms such as “cancel Disney+” and “cancel Hulu,” which may have prompted Disney to reinstate Kimmel. He also noted that another trending search term involved finding alternative entertainment for children, highlighting the suspension’s impact on Kimmel’s audience.

The development is significant for the late‑night landscape, as it signals a return to normalcy for Kimmel’s show and underscores the complexities of the television industry, where programming decisions can have far‑reaching consequences. As the industry continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how these events will shape the future of late‑night television.
