2027: CPC bloc no longer exists - Former APC National Secretary, Bulama

Nigeria’s former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Waziri Bulama, stressed the importance of regional alliances for winning the presidency. In an interview with Arise Television, he argued that no single region can produce a president without cooperation from other parts of the country. He pointed to Nigeria’s diverse population as a key factor, emphasizing that democratic stability depends on inter‑regional collaboration.

Bulama’s remarks responded to comments by Dr. Hakeem Baba‑Ahmed, who suggested that the North would play a decisive role in determining the next president. Bulama countered that a northerner—or anyone from a single region—cannot win the presidency without support from other areas. He cited former President Muhammadu Buhari as an example: despite a strong voter base in the North, Buhari needed to forge alliances with other regions to secure his election victories. His success, Bulama explained, was not solely due to northern popularity but also to a campaign that resonated with citizens across the country, creating a broader movement.

He added that when individuals join a political party, they are expected to set aside local identities such as tribe, region, or religion and adopt the party’s collective values and goals. Bulama’s statement underscores the need for national unity and cooperation in Nigeria’s democratic process. As the country navigates its complex political landscape, his comments highlight the importance of building alliances and fostering a sense of national identity, recognizing both the challenges and opportunities that diversity and inter‑regional cooperation present for a more stable and inclusive democracy.
