The Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has called for greater collaboration with both teaching and non‑teaching unions to strengthen the state’s education sector. Chairman Biodun Sanyaolu made the appeal during a meeting in Abeokuta with leaders of the All Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), and the Non‑Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU).
Sanyaolu emphasized that mutual understanding and cooperation between the commission and the unions are essential, describing the unions as critical stakeholders in education. He noted that their support is vital for the successful implementation of policies aimed at advancing teaching and learning in secondary schools across Ogun State. The commission has introduced initiatives to improve efficiency, fairness, and transparency in its operations, with the goal of boosting staff morale and ensuring quality service delivery.
The chairman also addressed the deployment of newly inducted principals and vice‑principals, assuring that postings would be based on existing vacancies, seniority, and merit. He explained that ongoing efforts aim to achieve an equitable distribution of teachers, taking into account teacher‑student ratios, subject requirements, and the need for a conducive teaching and learning environment.
In response, the union leaders praised TESCOM for prioritizing the welfare of both teaching and non‑teaching staff and pledged continued collaboration with the commission. The meeting highlighted the necessity of collective effort to strengthen Ogun State’s education sector. With the commission’s initiatives and the unions’ cooperation, the state’s education system is poised for improvement, expected to yield higher teacher morale, better student performance, and a more efficient overall system.
