Tinubu's ban on foreign goods major boost for Nigerian economy — Stakeholders

Public affairs analyst Olaniyi Olawale expects Nigeria’s North‑West region to back President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election. He attributes this anticipated support to the president’s rollout of landmark projects in the area. Major road works such as the Abuja‑Kaduna‑Zaria‑Kano highways are nearing completion, and the Kano‑Maiduguri road project is advancing, with sections 1 through 4 almost finished. The Kano‑Katsina road is also close to completion, underscoring the administration’s commitment to regional development.

Olawale, who coordinates the Progressive Foundation Movement, notes that key stakeholders in Kano—including former All Progressives Congress chairman Abdullahi Ganduje and lawmakers such as Abubakar Bichi—are rallying behind Tinubu because of these development efforts. A particularly significant upcoming initiative is the Light Rail project in Kano State, projected to cost over $1 billion. President Tinubu is slated to lay its foundation within the next one to two months, positioning the rail line as one of the most important infrastructure projects in Northern Nigeria.

The mobilization of support by figures like Ganduje and Bichi highlights the importance of the North‑West’s backing for Tinubu’s re‑election bid. As the 2027 election approaches, the region’s response to the president’s development agenda will be closely monitored, with the projects likely playing a pivotal role in securing the needed support.
