We suspended Senator Abaribe after he claimed ADC leadership in Abia - APGA Chairman

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Abia State has indefinitely suspended Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, who represents Abia South, over alleged anti‑party activities. The suspension was announced after Abaribe claimed to be a leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). State Chairman Sunday Onukwubiri confirmed the decision, noting that it follows the rules set out in the APGA constitution.

The news was first disclosed by Peter Nduka, APGA’s State Secretary in Abia, after a State Executive Council meeting. Onukwubiri explained that Abaribe was given a 24‑hour ultimatum to refute the claim of holding an ADC leadership position, but he failed to respond. The party viewed his actions as an insult, arguing that a member cannot belong to APGA while simultaneously holding a leadership role in another party.

Onukwubiri added that APGA had invited Abaribe to discuss the issue about a month earlier, yet he did not reply. When approached for comment, Uche Awom, the media aide to Senator Abaribe, declined to speak, saying there was nothing to say at the present time.

The suspension underscores the ongoing tensions and power struggles within Nigerian politics. As one of the major parties in the country, APGA’s decision to suspend a prominent figure like Abaribe could affect its internal dynamics and future electoral prospects. How Abaribe will respond and the impact on his political career remain to be seen.
