Troops rescue 2 immigration officers kidnapped in Benue — Daily Nigerian

Troops of the Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke successfully rescued two kidnapped officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State. The operation, carried out on Friday, followed credible intelligence about the abduction of David Iorwuese and Oliver Orasuur.

According to a statement by Lt. Ahmad Zubairu, Acting Media Information Officer at OPWS headquarters, a coordinated search and rescue mission was launched in Tse Tembe and Adamawa Village, both located within the Azendeshi Council Ward of Ukum LGA. Executed with precision and speed, the mission led to the recovery of the two officers at Adamawa Village after the kidnappers fled. The rescued officers are now in safe custody, receiving preliminary medical attention and debriefing.

Force Commander Maj.-Gen. Moses Gara commended the troops for their professionalism and unwavering commitment to duty. He noted that the mission’s success underscores OPWS’s determination to respond swiftly to distress calls, safeguard citizens, and protect farmers to enhance food security in Benue and neighboring states.

The rescue highlights the importance of collaboration between security forces and local residents in curbing criminality. Maj.-Gen. Gara urged communities to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, emphasizing that such cooperation is vital for maintaining law and order.

This operation is a significant achievement for the Joint Task Force, demonstrating its capability to respond to security threats and protect citizens. It also serves as a reminder of the ongoing security challenges in Nigeria, particularly kidnapping and banditry. The government has been working to strengthen security in affected regions, including Benue State, where OPWS remains actively engaged in maintaining peace and stability. The successful rescue is a positive development, and security forces are expected to build on this momentum to ensure the safety of citizens and enhance regional security.
