The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has announced a nationwide strike that will take effect on Monday, September 29, 2025. In a statement released after the association’s National Executive Council meeting on Saturday, PENGASSAN instructed all members to cease providing services at 12:01 a.m. on that day. The directive applies to members working in offices, companies, institutions and agencies throughout the country.
Members stationed in field locations—including control‑room operators, panel operators and out‑field personnel—are required to withdraw their services beginning at 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 28, 2025. Instead, they will conduct a round‑the‑clock prayer vigil, asking God to intervene and urging authorities to enforce compliance with Nigerian laws, particularly by Dangote and its associates.
During the strike, PENGASSAN has stipulated that no interventions will be permitted at field sites unless the safety of personnel or assets is threatened. In such cases, clearance must be obtained from the National Secretariat. The association has also ordered an immediate halt to all processes involving gas and crude supply to the Dangote Refinery.
The strike marks a significant escalation in the ongoing tensions between PENGASSAN and Dangote, with the union emphasizing the need for Dangote to adhere to Nigerian law. PENGASSAN stresses that no individual or entity is above the law and frames the strike as a collective effort to protect the interests of all Nigerians. As the strike begins, members are urged to stand united, echoing the slogan, “an injury to one is an injury to all.”
The action is expected to affect various sectors, especially gas and crude supply, and is being closely monitored by industry stakeholders and authorities. The developments are likely to have far‑reaching implications for Nigeria’s energy sector and the broader economy.
