The Edo State Government has proposed a supplementary budget of N125.6 billion, which will be presented to the Edo State House of Assembly for consideration and approval. This addition raises the originally approved 2025 budget from N675.22 billion to N799.82 billion, an 18 % increase, according to Emmanuel Okoebor, the State Commissioner for Finance. Okoebor disclosed the figures while briefing journalists on the resolutions adopted at the State Executive Council meeting held on 29 September 2025. The emergency executive meeting, chaired by Governor Monday Okpebholo, resolved to propose the supplementary budget.
The primary rationale for the supplement is the state government’s commitment to infrastructural development. Capital expenditure has been increased to N563 billion, a 25 % rise from the initial N450 billion allocation. In contrast, recurrent expenditure has grown by 5 %, driven mainly by an increase in the minimum wage and the hiring of more than 1,000 staff for the hospital management board. As a result, 70 % of the revised budget is now earmarked for capital projects, while 30 % is allocated to recurrent costs. This shift underscores the government’s focus on infrastructure, exemplified by the construction of over 254 kilometers of roads across the state and numerous ongoing projects.
Commissioner for Information and Communication Paul Ohombamu noted that the revised budget will be forwarded to the Edo State House of Assembly for legislative consideration and passage. The supplementary budget is expected to strengthen the state’s infrastructural development efforts, ultimately improving the well‑being of the people of Edo State.
