Tinted Glass: Police threaten to impound vehicles, prosecute drivers without permit in Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command has announced that a valid Tinted Glass Permit is now mandatory for all vehicle owners in the state. The permit must be issued through the Police Specialized Services Automation Project (POSSAP), and enforcement of this regulation will begin on Monday, October 6, 2025. According to SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, the initiative forms part of a broader security strategy aimed at improving identification, enhancing data collection, and curbing criminal activities carried out by individuals who use tinted glass to conceal their identities. Records show a 15 % increase in crimes involving tinted vehicles during the first and second quarters of 2025 in Yobe State, mirroring a similar nationwide trend.

In addition to the tinted‑glass permit, the Command has warned motorists against using covered or concealed number plates. All vehicles must display legally registered plates conspicuously on both the front and rear. Driving without a visible number plate is a serious traffic violation that threatens public safety and security. The State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, has urged full compliance with these regulations to raise security awareness, promote public safety, and reduce vehicle burglary and related crimes.

Any vehicle found without a proper number plate or valid documentation will be impounded, and the driver will be arrested and prosecuted. The implementation of these measures is expected to create a safer, more secure environment in Yobe State by ensuring that all vehicles are properly registered and identifiable, thereby facilitating crime prevention and investigation. Motorists are advised to take the necessary steps to comply before the enforcement date to avoid penalties or inconvenience. This move is widely regarded as a positive step toward enhancing public safety and security in the state.
