The father of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, has petitioned the Lagos State Government to prosecute those implicated in his son’s death. In a petition addressed to the state’s Attorney‑General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, Joseph Aloba called for the prosecution of Omowunmi Aloba, Mohbad’s widow, and Feyisayo Ogedengbe, the auxiliary nurse who administered an injection to the singer shortly before his death in September 2023. The petition, signed by Aloba’s lawyer Wahab Shittu, also requests that other individuals present in Mohbad’s apartment at the time be brought to justice, particularly those who invited the nurse or failed to seek immediate medical help.
The demand follows the coroner’s verdict delivered in July 2025 by Magistrate Taofikat Shotobi, which found the nurse’s actions “unlawful and professionally negligent” because she gave an injection without a doctor’s prescription. The magistrate also faulted Mohbad’s wife for choosing to treat her husband at home rather than taking him to a medical facility. Aloba’s lawyer expressed concern that more than two months have passed without criminal proceedings against the indicted parties.
The petition urges the Attorney‑General to commence prosecution within 14 days, citing the case’s high sensitivity and public interest. If the state declines to act, the lawyer has requested formal authorization to prosecute the matter on behalf of the state under the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State.
Mohbad’s death in September 2023 sent shockwaves through the Nigerian music industry, prompting fans and colleagues to call for justice. While the coroner’s verdict has clarified some of the events leading to his death, the delayed prosecution has raised questions about the commitment to holding those responsible accountable. As the case progresses, it is likely to remain in the public eye, with many awaiting the outcome of the planned prosecution.
