16 military officers facing disciplinary action – DHQ — Daily Nigerian

The Defence Headquarters in Nigeria announced that 16 officers of the Armed Forces will face military justice for alleged indiscipline and breaches of service regulations. The Director of Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, said the officers were apprehended during a routine military exercise after investigations uncovered conduct inconsistent with military discipline and service ethics.

The inquiries revealed that some officers’ grievances stemmed from perceived career stagnation, including repeated failures in promotion examinations and other service‑related issues. Several of those detained had previously been under jurisdiction for various offences, either awaiting trial or already undergoing proceedings, and their behaviour was deemed incompatible with military standards.

Upon concluding the investigations, the Director explained that all indicted personnel will receive appropriate disciplinary measures in accordance with the Armed Forces Act and established military justice procedures. This action forms part of routine efforts to preserve order, discipline and professionalism within the armed forces.

The military assured the public that it remains committed to its core values of loyalty, integrity and constitutional obedience under democratic authority. It emphasized that any behaviour undermining cohesion or threatening its constitutional role will not be tolerated. The armed forces continue to uphold professionalism and the defence of Nigeria’s sovereignty.

The decision to discipline the 16 officers represents a significant step toward maintaining discipline and order in the military. The Armed Forces of Nigeria will persist in ensuring its personnel adhere to the highest standards of conduct, thereby sustaining public trust and confidence in the institution. As the military addresses indiscipline and breaches of service regulations, it is expected to emerge stronger and more resilient, while the Nigerian public watches closely to gauge the impact of these disciplinary actions on overall military professionalism.
