Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited unveiled its pan‑African operational strategy at Africa Energy Week, marking a significant phase of regional expansion and leadership in the energy sector. The company, which runs Nigeria’s largest upstream oil and gas joint venture, aims to catalyse a new beginning for Africa by delivering energy security and industrialisation through sustainable practices.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Tony Attah described Renaissance as a transformational force in Africa’s energy landscape. “We are Renaissance, not just in name, but in purpose,” he said. “Our ambition is to drive energy security and industrialisation through sustainable practices.” The company’s vision is to become Africa’s leading energy firm, enabling energy security and industrialisation sustainably.
Renaissance, formerly the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Renaissance Africa Energy Holding Company. It operates the NNPC/Renaissance/TotalEnergies/AENR joint venture, with assets spread across 18 oil‑mining leases in Nigeria’s Niger Delta. The acquisition of Shell’s shares in the former SPDC by Renaissance’s parent company was seen as a bold move, which Attah said was executed with clarity and conviction.
Chairman Dr. Layi Fatona emphasized the company’s Afrocentric vision and commitment to continental leadership. “Our strategy begins in Nigeria but is designed for scale across the continent,” he said, adding that Renaissance is not merely participating in Africa’s energy future but aims to shape it.
Africa Energy Week, held from September 29 to October 3, 2025, provided a platform for Renaissance executives to engage in strategic discussions. Attah hosted a fireside chat to deepen brand awareness, while Fatona joined a panel on “Frontier Plays Within Africa’s Mature Basins,” highlighting the role of legacy assets in the energy transition.
Renaissance’s new strategy signals a significant shift as it seeks to expand operations across Africa. With a strong presence in Nigeria, the company is well positioned to drive energy security and industrialisation on the continent. As the energy landscape continues to evolve, Renaissance is poised to play a leading role in shaping Africa’s energy future.
