Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State reiterated the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) stance as a dominant force in sub‑Saharan Africa while speaking at a meeting of the PDP National Convention Protocol Committee in Abuja. He emphasized the party’s instrumental role in his personal successes and expressed his commitment to the PDP, attributing his achievements to the party and his faith.
Preparations for the party’s national convention, scheduled for 15–16 November in Ibadan, Oyo State, are already underway. The compilation of delegates’ lists has begun, and Fintiri assured that his team is dedicated to ensuring a successful event. He said he may spend up to three weeks in Ibadan to oversee the preparations and pledged that the convention would be transparent and credible, with the new National Working Committee members emerging as individuals of integrity and competence.
Fintiri guaranteed a fair screening process, allowing all candidates who have purchased forms to participate, provided they have no encumbrances in their documents or records. He encouraged candidates to test their popularity in the field as the party finalizes the delegate list, emphasizing that the party’s leadership is committed to responsible leadership and that the convention’s outcome will reflect the majority’s support.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, who chairs the convention’s protocol sub‑committee, praised the enthusiasm and mobilization across the country. He noted that the energy and unity demonstrated ahead of the convention reflect the PDP’s determination to reclaim its position as Nigeria’s foremost opposition party.
The PDP’s national convention is expected to be a crucial event in Nigeria’s political landscape. With the party’s commitment to transparency and credibility, the outcome may have significant implications for the country’s political future. As the party prepares for the convention, its members remain focused on ensuring a successful event that will shape the PDP’s trajectory in the years to come.
