Nigerian Singer Spyro Overcomes Fear Of Failure

Nigerian singer Oludipe David, known professionally as Spyro, has spoken out about his struggles with atychiphobia, or the fear of failure, and how his father’s negative comments affected his childhood. In a recent interview with media personality Frank Edoho, Spyro shared that his father’s criticisms led him to internalize fear and doubt his abilities, making him feel like a failure at times.

Spyro recalled struggling with poor grades in secondary school and questioning his ability to complete his university degree due to the psychological impact of his fear. He even went as far as thinking he would die poor, perpetuated by his father’s constant negative utterances. However, the singer credits developing a personal relationship with God as a turning point in overcoming his fear of failure.

Before his breakthrough, Spyro considered giving up on music and had started exploring interior design. But his fortunes changed with the release of his hit song “Who Is Your Guy” in 2022, which became a viral sensation. The song’s success was further solidified with a remix featuring Tiwa Savage in 2023, cementing Spyro’s status as a rising star in the music industry.

The song’s impact was recognized at the 16th Headies Awards, where it won Best Collaboration. Spyro’s journey serves as a testament to the importance of perseverance and overcoming self-doubt. His experience highlights the potential long-term effects of negative comments and the significance of seeking support and guidance. With his music career now on track, Spyro’s story may inspire others to re-evaluate their own struggles with fear and self-doubt, and seek help when needed.
