The Nigerian Postal Service has introduced a 15 percent logistics discount for more than 20,000 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) registered with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria. Postmaster General Tola Odeyemi announced the initiative on World Post Day, which was themed “Post for People: Local Service, Global Reach.” The discount is part of the agency’s effort to support local businesses and improve their operational efficiency.
Odeyemi emphasized that the Nigerian Postal Service is committed to reshaping the nation’s logistics, digital economy, and service‑delivery systems. In partnership with the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy and the National Population Commission, the agency is implementing a National Addressing System with a new digital postcode. This system will enable more efficient delivery services and bolster the growth of e‑commerce in Nigeria.
To further empower local businesses, the Nigerian Postal Service has launched an e‑commerce platform called Digital Market Places. The platform allows SMEs to sell products locally and internationally, offering integrated logistics and secure payment options. It provides seamless online shipping, order management, and last‑mile delivery solutions, making it easier for small businesses and digital merchants to transact and fulfill e‑commerce orders.
The logistics discount and the e‑commerce platform are expected to lower operational costs for SMEs and expand their market reach. With over 20,000 businesses set to benefit from the discount, the initiative is likely to have a significant impact on the growth of Nigeria’s digital economy. These efforts align with the Federal Government’s mission to connect Nigerians and promote economic development.
