Nigeria Police Updates Somtochukwu Murder Investigation

The Nigeria Police have provided an update on the investigation into the death of Somtochukwu Christella Maduagwu, a presenter with Arise Television, who was killed during an armed robbery at her residence in Abuja. On September 29, armed robbers invaded Somtochukwu’s apartment at Unique Apartments, Katampe Extension, Mabushi, Abuja, resulting in the deaths of the journalist and a security guard, Mr. Barnabas Danlami.

Following a thorough investigation, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command arrested 12 suspects linked to the robbery. According to the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, the suspects were identified through diligent efforts and extensive digital intelligence analysis. Investigations revealed that the fatal shot that killed the security guard was fired by one of the suspects, Shamsudeen Hassan, who confessed to shooting the guard when he attempted to prevent the robbers from accessing the apartment.

Further investigation showed that the firearms used by the suspects were sourced from a supplier in the Niger Republic, whose identity has not been disclosed. The suspects also confessed to participating in other armed robbery operations in various parts of Abuja, including Katampe I, Apo, and Zuba. The police have vowed to prosecute the suspects in accordance with the law.

The incident highlights the ongoing concerns about armed robbery and violent crime in Nigeria’s capital city. The police have reassured the public that they are working to address these concerns and bring those responsible to justice. The investigation into the death of Somtochukwu Christella Maduagwu and the security guard is a significant step towards achieving this goal.
