Too toxic for me' - Ireti Doyle gives reasons for disappearing on social media

Nollywood actress Ireti Doyle has voiced her concerns about the growing toxicity of social media, describing it as unsafe for her. In a recent Instagram post, the 58‑year‑old revealed that she had been absent from the media space for several months because of the increasingly hostile online environment. Doyle explained that she felt compelled to “disappear again” as the negativity was overwhelming her “quiet soul,” and she urged her followers to protect themselves from the harmful content they encounter online.

Born on May 3, 1967, in Ondo State, Nigeria, Doyle has enjoyed a notable career in the entertainment industry. After spending part of her early life in the United States, she returned to Nigeria and earned a degree in Theatre Arts from the University of Jos. She began her professional journey as a producer and presenter, hosting the popular fashion and lifestyle show “Oge with Iretiola” for ten years and anchoring programs such as “Morning Ride” on STV.

Doyle’s acting career took off in the late 1990s, with memorable performances in films like “Sitanda,” “Across the Niger,” and “Torn.” Her work has earned her several accolades, including a Best Supporting Actress award at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, and she is recognized for her contributions to the Nigerian entertainment industry over more than two decades.

Her decision to step back from social media highlights the broader concerns about online toxicity and its impact on mental health. As a prominent figure in Nigerian entertainment, Doyle’s comments resonate with many who feel the need to withdraw from digital platforms due to their negative effects. Her remarks serve as a reminder that online platforms must prioritize user safety and well‑being in an increasingly connected world.
