PDP Gains Momentum in Benue South as Rivals Defect

A significant political development occurred in Benue South Senatorial District on October 11, 2025, as numerous politicians from various parties defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The event took place in Ogoli-Ugboju, Otukpo Local Government Area, with Chief Barr. Isaac Oduh, former Senatorial candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), leading the group of defectors.

The decision to join the PDP was reportedly driven by the desire to align with a leader who prioritizes the needs of the people, as embodied by Senator Dr. Abba Moro, the Senate Minority Leader and representative of Benue South. According to Chief Oduh, Senator Moro’s leadership style has demonstrated that politics can be about service rather than self-interest. The defectors expressed their confidence in the PDP, citing its organization and people-oriented approach.

The Benue State PDP Chairman, Rt. Hon. Chief Ezekiel Adaji, welcomed the new members and assured them of full integration and equal opportunities within the party. He commended Senator Moro for his efforts in uniting stakeholders across Zone C, noting that the defections are a testament to the PDP’s growing strength.

The event coincided with the distribution of wheelchairs to persons living with disabilities across the nine Local Government Areas of Benue South. Senator Moro presented the items personally, emphasizing his commitment to supporting all groups regardless of physical or social limitations. He also urged party faithful to remain united, stressing that internal harmony is crucial to the PDP’s success in 2027.

The defection of prominent politicians to the PDP is seen as a significant development in the political landscape of Benue South. With the 2027 elections approaching, the PDP’s growing strength in the region may have implications for the political dynamics of the area. The party’s ability to attract defectors from other parties may be a testament to its appeal and organization. As the political landscape continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how these developments will impact the outcome of future elections.
