Nnamdi Kanu Lawyer Criticised for Protest Participation

Nigerian Presidential Adviser Criticizes Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyer for Protesting

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, has criticized Aloy Ejimakor, one of Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyers, for participating in a protest in Abuja. Onanuga described Ejimakor’s action as unethical and deserving of sanctions, citing the principle of sub judice in Kanu’s ongoing treason case.

According to Onanuga, Ejimakor was spotted among a group of protesters allegedly mobilized by activist Omoyele Sowore. Onanuga questioned Ejimakor’s decision to join the protest, suggesting that it was inappropriate for a lawyer to engage in such activities while a case is still pending in court. The prosecution has concluded its case, and it is now up to Ejimakor and other lawyers to prepare a strong defense for Kanu.

Onanuga argued that Ejimakor’s participation in the protest was a violation of professional ethics and called for legal authorities to consider disciplinary action against him. He emphasized that lawyers should focus on preparing strong cases rather than resorting to extra-legal tactics to influence the process.

The criticism comes as Kanu’s treason case continues to unfold in the courts. Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, has been a vocal advocate for the separation of the Igbo people from Nigeria. His case has sparked widespread interest and debate in the country, with many calling for his release and others advocating for his prosecution.

The incident has highlighted the complexities of the case and the need for all parties involved to adhere to professional ethics and the rule of law. As the case progresses, it is likely that there will be increased scrutiny of the actions of all parties involved, including lawyers and activists. The Nigerian legal community will be watching closely to see how the situation unfolds and what actions are taken in response to Onanuga’s criticism.
