'Don’t stay with abusive men’ - Ngozi Nwosu speaks out against domestic violence

Nollywood actress Ngozi Nwosu recently opened up about her experience with domestic violence, revealing that she called off her wedding after enduring repeated physical abuse from her then‑partner. In an interview on *Real Life With* actress Aunty Ayo Adesanya, Nwosu recounted a harrowing incident in which her partner dragged her by the hair until she bled. The assault, which occurred just a day before the planned ceremony, prompted her to end the relationship despite pressure from her family and the groom‑to‑be to go ahead with the marriage. She refused to sign the marriage papers.

Since then, Nwosu has become an advocate for women’s rights, urging women not to remain in abusive relationships. She emphasized that violence can never be excused or tolerated and that marriage is not a justification for enduring physical harm. She described how her partner’s aggression escalated, culminating in him breaking a kitchen door and pulling her hair, leaving her bleeding and vulnerable. Neighbors witnessed the episode, and Nwosu resolved to defend herself, even if it meant facing jail.

Nwosu’s message to women is clear: leaving an abusive relationship is often the safest choice. She warned that accepting violence once can lead to a lifetime of abuse and cautioned against being swayed by apologies or promises of change. Her story underscores the importance of prioritizing safety and well‑being in relationships.

By sharing her experience, Nwosu hopes to empower women to make informed decisions about their relationships and to seek help when needed. Her courage in speaking out highlights the need for greater discussion and action on domestic violence, an issue that affects women and families worldwide.
