In a recent interview on the BET Talks podcast, Nigerian rapper and singer Tochukwu Ojogwu—known as Odumodublvck—shared his perspective on the state of politics in Nigeria. He described the country’s political landscape as “shambolic,” noting how power can corrupt and how even well‑intentioned leaders often become compromised by their cabinets. According to Odumodublvck, concentrating power inevitably leads to negative outcomes, regardless of a leader’s original intentions. “When you give someone power, it never really goes as planned,” he said. “If the person is bad, bad people will make them worse. And if the person is good, you will have bad people trying to contaminate the good.”
Odumodublvck also stressed the importance of holding local representatives accountable rather than focusing solely on the president. He observed that many Nigerians have been “brainwashed” into directing their criticism only at the president, while overlooking the responsibilities of local chairmen, councillors, senators, and other public officials who directly represent their constituents. These officials, he argued, should be held responsible for the challenges facing their communities.
His comments underscore the need for greater civic engagement and awareness to promote good governance and accountability in Nigeria. By recognizing the significance of local representation and embracing collective responsibility, citizens can work toward a more effective and responsive political system. As the country navigates its complex political terrain, the voices of ordinary people—and those from the entertainment industry—can play a crucial role in shaping Nigeria’s future and fostering positive change.
