The Tinubu Support Group (TSG) has voiced confidence that the northern region will back President Bola Tinubu’s re‑election bid in the 2027 general elections. Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, the TSG’s Director‑General, argued that the North owes President Tinubu moral support because of his past political alliances with the region. He made these remarks at the inauguration of the Ondo State chapter of the TSG, where Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa was honored as the group’s Grand Patron. Yakasai pointed to President Tinubu’s backing of former President Buhari in 2017 and 2023 as evidence of a moral obligation for the North to reciprocate. He dismissed criticisms from some northern figures as insignificant, noting that they represent only a small fraction of the electorate.

Yakasai emphasized that the TSG remains the umbrella body coordinating all pro‑Tinubu movements nationwide, working to promote the Tinubu presidency and secure his re‑election. In Ondo State, TSG Director‑General Prince Ademola Adegoroye called on residents and political groups to rally behind the Tinubu administration, highlighting the state’s benefits from several federal projects under President Tinubu’s leadership. These projects include the Akure‑Ado Road, the Ore‑Akure Road, and the Lagos‑Calabar Superhighway, among others. Adegoroye noted that these achievements, together with Governor Aiyedatiwa’s accomplishments, would form a strong campaign base for 2027.

Governor Aiyedatiwa praised TSG members as “movers and shakers of Ondo politics” and pledged that Ondo State would play a major role in ensuring continuity for the Tinubu administration. The TSG’s expression of support for President Tinubu’s re‑election underscores the importance of political alliances and regional backing in Nigerian politics. As the 2027 general elections approach, the group’s efforts to mobilize support for the President are likely to be closely watched, and its nationwide presence, coupled with the reported gains from federal projects in Ondo State, may have a notable impact on the upcoming elections.
