Nollywood actress Ngozi Nwosu recently opened up about the domestic abuse she endured during her former marriage, revealing that the violence continued even while she was pregnant. In a podcast interview, she stressed that marriage should not be treated as a “do‑or‑die affair” and that personal safety must take precedence over societal expectations.
Nwosu explained that she suffered severe physical abuse in silence, choosing not to publicize her struggles at the time. “When you see real beating, correct pummeling, you won’t even remember social media. You’ll forget about it and start struggling for your life,” she said. Although she initially decided to leave the marriage because of the abuse, her senior sister persuaded her to stay.
The actress expressed sympathy for other women in similar situations, citing the late gospel singer Osinachi Nwachukwu, whose death was linked to domestic violence. She urged victims to act when the abuse becomes unbearable: “When this thing is too much, you have to move. It’s your life we are talking about here, not that person’s life.”
Nwosu’s decision to speak publicly highlights the urgent need for greater awareness and support for victims of domestic abuse. By sharing her story, she hopes to inspire others to prioritize their safety and well‑being and to seek help when needed, reinforcing the broader call for continued efforts to address domestic violence worldwide.
