Sahara Group Calls For Bold Human Capital Strategies In Africa’s Energy Sector

At the 2025 Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) Annual International Conference & Exhibition, Sahara Group highlighted the critical role of innovative human‑capital strategies in fostering sustainable growth and competitiveness across Africa’s energy sector. Speaking as the Group Head of Human Resources, Emilomo Arorote called for deliberate, bold approaches to position the industry for success amid evolving global energy‑security challenges.

The conference, themed “Revitalizing the Nigerian Petroleum Exploration and Production Strategies for Energy Security and Sustainable Development,” gathered industry leaders, policymakers and innovators to chart pathways toward long‑term energy security in Africa. Arorote emphasized that the curiosity, competence and courage of energy professionals are the most powerful levers for transformation in a transitioning world, noting that innovation begins with people, not merely with systems.

Sahara Group remains committed to transformative human‑capital development as a cornerstone of Africa’s energy sustainability. The company has witnessed how curiosity can become capability when young professionals challenge conventions and apply fresh thinking to complex problems. Arorote warned that the next frontier will depend not only on technology but also on the mindset of those driving it; the future will belong to those who combine curiosity with patience and precision.

To support this vision, she stressed the need for sustainable systems that facilitate mentorship and knowledge transfer, enabling emerging and seasoned professionals to learn, adapt and grow together. Sahara Group’s participation in NAPE 2025 reinforces its dedication to investing in human capital, advancing digitalisation and leveraging gas as a transition fuel for Africa’s sustainable growth.

Across its upstream, midstream and downstream operations in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East, the company continues to pursue operational excellence and innovation, empowering young professionals to reimagine what is possible in Africa’s energy landscape. By prioritising the development of young talent and fostering a culture of innovation and mentorship, the sector can unlock its full potential and drive robust, globally competitive energy operations. As the energy landscape evolves, the importance of bold human‑capital strategies will only increase.
