APC Chieftain Defends Amaechi Against Lagos Chapter

A high-ranking member of the All Progressives Congress, Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has criticized the Lagos chapter of the party for its recent statement about former Rivers State governor, Chibuike Amaechi. The Lagos APC had described Amaechi as a “stranded politician” who lacks the ability to lead a revolt against President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

The Lagos APC’s statement was in response to Amaechi’s call for Nigerians to mobilize and vote against the Tinubu administration in the next general election. Eze, a prominent figure in the APC, particularly in the South-South region, has dismissed the Lagos chapter’s remark as “ridiculous and untutored,” suggesting it stems from “sheer sycophancy.”

Eze emphasized that Amaechi has not been rejected by his people in any credible election, pointing out that it was actually President Tinubu and the APC who faced rejection in Lagos in 2023 and are currently experiencing widespread disapproval from Nigerians. He believes the next presidential election will be a contest between President Tinubu and the Nigerian people, rather than a battle against a specific opposition platform.

According to Eze, the current state of the country is worse than it was during the Abacha era, despite the significant oil wealth accumulated during Tinubu’s tenure as head of the federal government. He advised the Lagos APC to refrain from making unnecessary comments and instead focus on addressing the nation’s challenges. Eze also encouraged Amaechi to continue his efforts to raise awareness among the populace about the need for change.

The exchange highlights the growing tensions within the APC, as different factions and individuals position themselves for the upcoming elections. The party’s internal dynamics and the broader political landscape in Nigeria will likely continue to evolve in the lead-up to the 2027 elections. As the country navigates its current challenges, political leaders and stakeholders are under increasing pressure to deliver on their promises and address the concerns of the Nigerian people.
