The Ebonyi State Police Command has reported a significant breakthrough in its efforts to combat crime, highlighting the rescue of a kidnap victim and the foiling of an armed robbery attack. According to SP Joshua Ukandu, the command’s spokesman, the incidents occurred on November 12 and 13.

On November 12, police operatives patrolling the Ehamufu–Nkalagu Road in Ishielu Local Government Area responded to sporadic gunshots and distress screams. They discovered a man, Ali Solomon, being attacked by three armed robbers who were trying to steal his motorcycle. The police intervened; the robbers opened fire before fleeing. The operatives returned fire, neutralizing one suspect and recovering an AK‑47 rifle with ten rounds of ammunition.

A separate incident unfolded on November 13 when a kidnapping syndicate abducted Thank‑God Obasi in the Ezzangbo area of Ohaukwu Local Government Area. The kidnappers tied Obasi up and left him in a hotel toilet, demanding a ransom of ₦5 million. Through diligent intelligence gathering, police operatives tracked down the kidnappers’ hideout, rescued the victim and arrested three suspects: Uchenna Ogbozuru, Ebuka Ejiogu, and Chizoba Idenyi Ogwa. The suspects are currently in custody and will be charged once the investigation concludes.

Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi State, CP Adaku Uche‑Anya, reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting the lives and property of all residents and ensuring that criminal elements have no place to hide in the state. These recent successes demonstrate the command’s dedication to tackling crime and maintaining law and order. The police will continue to prevent and respond to criminal activity, and the public is encouraged to cooperate with authorities to ensure a safer community.
