774 NNPP members defect to APC in Kano

A group of 774 former members of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rimin Gado Local Government Area. They were welcomed by Alhaji Rabiu Bichi, Managing Director of the Hadejia‑Jam’are River Basin Development Authority, who described the move as “lucky.” Bichi argued that the APC is the only party capable of steering Nigeria toward meaningful development, citing President Bola Tinubu’s projects in the North as evidence.

According to Bichi, more than 18 major projects worth billions of naira have already been completed in Kano State, and substantial funds are being released to state governments for further development. However, he expressed concern that some states may be diverting these resources to other sectors. He noted that the Renewed Hope Agenda is already delivering positive outcomes, including economic recovery and improved food security through various agricultural programmes. Bichi assured the defectors that they would be fully integrated into the APC and treated as long‑standing members.

The defectors’ leader, Mohammad Karofin‑Yashi, said they joined the APC because of the party’s commendable development initiatives. He expressed confidence that the APC would elevate Kano and the nation to greater heights and pledged to secure the support of additional NNPP members who are expected to defect soon.

The defection of 774 NNPP members to the APC is viewed as a significant development in Kano State’s political landscape. The APC’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its presence in the region are likely to boost its prospects in future elections. With the Renewed Hope Agenda already showing positive results, the party is poised to continue its development initiatives and improve the lives of Nigerians.
