2027: INEC provides updates on ongoing voter registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun State has launched activities under Phase One of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, following a circular from the Commission’s National Headquarters that aligns with the approved national timeline. Osun Resident Electoral Commissioner Dr. Mutiu Agboke explained that the initiative aims to give all eligible citizens the chance to register, update their details, or verify their records ahead of future elections.

Phase One will run until 10 December 2025. During this period, the Preliminary Register of Voters will be printed on 13 – 14 December 2025 to prepare for the mandatory display of the register. The display for claims and objections is scheduled for 16 – 21 December 2025, when registered voters and the public are encouraged to visit local government offices to verify their details. Anyone may raise claims or objections during this seven‑day window, and the Commission will address complaints arising from the display exercise on 21 December 2025. Necessary updates to the register will be made on 22 December 2025 to ensure its integrity and accuracy.

Phase Two of the CVR exercise will resume on 5 January 2026, offering another opportunity for eligible citizens who have not yet registered or need to update their information. The Commission urges all eligible voters to take advantage of this window, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s electoral process. The public is advised to follow official communication channels for accurate information and to avoid misinformation.

As the electoral process unfolds, INEC’s efforts to maintain an accurate and credible voter register are essential to preserving the credibility of Nigeria’s democratic system. Citizens are encouraged to participate in the CVR exercise and exercise their right to vote, thereby contributing to the country’s democratic development.
